THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team closed out its home schedule on a high note as the Colonels picked up a huge win in conference play, defeating Stephen F. Austin 5-2 Sunday at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
 
After taking the doubles point by winning the No. 2 and 3 courts by scores of 8-5, the Colonels (12-7, 5-4) claimed four victories in singles play, with two coming in straight sets. Marie Aubert took the No. 1 match with a 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) win over Denise Maxi while Emma Kranendonk won both of her sets 6-3 against Andrea Ternera on the No. 6 court.
 
In the No. 2 match, Stephanie Barnett found herself down a set against Melena Gordo before battling back for a 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory. Isla Brock also lost her first set before capturing a 5-7, 7-5, 6-1 win over Laura Service.
 
SFA (10-9, 6-4) picked up points in the No. 3 and 4 matches as Kateryna Nakonechna and Klara Skopac were defeated in straight sets.
 
In doubles, Skopac and Barnett won on the No. 2 court while Aubert/ Nakonechna took the No. 3 match.
 
The Colonels will close out the regular season on the road, taking on Sam Houston State (April 15), New Orleans (April 18) and Southeastern Louisiana (April 19).
