Coach Seth Thibodeaux becomes the fourth Nicholls coach to record 100 wins

Seth Thibodeaux his 100
th win with Nicholls.
The Colonels (20-20, 11-6 SLC) took the lead in the second inning and never looked back, adding runs in the fifth and the sixth to pull away from the Cardinals (12-23, 5-6 SLC), who had no answer for Nicholls' defense.
In the top of the second inning, the Colonels led off with a pair of singles from
Tyler Duplantis and
Brandon Jackson before a
David Zorn single to left field scored the pair.
In the fifth,
Leo Vargas singled, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error and come home on a
Keith Cormier single through the right side.
Tyler Duplantis led off the sixth inning with a single, advanced on a sacrifice bunt from
Brandon Jackson and stole third.
Christian Correa singled up the middle, driving Duplantis in. The team then enacted what Cormier labeled, "Operation Bring Christian Home", making light of Correa's lacking sprinter-speed. Zorn singled through the right side, advancing Correa to second. On the ensuring at bat, a throwing error allowed Duplantis to reach first. Correa advanced to third on the play and galloped home after the errant throw, sliding passed the tag of catcher Besett Colton for the score.
Lefty
Taylor Byrd (6-2) commanded the mound for the Colonels, throwing six innings with five hits and nine strikeouts to earn the win.
Marc Frazier and
Marc Picciola maintained the defensive dominance for the final three frames, combining to allow just two hits while fanning two batters.
Dylan Boss (2-4) took the loss for the Cardinals, surrendering five runs (four earned) on 11 hits with two strikeouts.
Duplantis led the Colonels offensively, going 2-for-3 and scoring twice. Correa hit 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while
David Zorn notched a 2-for-4 effort with two RBIs.
William Triebes led the Cardinals offensively with a 1-for-2 day. Seven Cardinal batters notched a hit, but none was able to register a second hit on the day.
Coach Thibodeaux becomes the fourth Nicholls coach to reach 100 wins and has a .490 winning percentage in his four years with the club. The players presented Thibodeaux with the "War Daddy" shirt after the game in honor of his 100th win.
