CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After making several comebacks in the first meeting against Stephen F. Austin, the Nicholls State University women's tennis team could not duplicate the effort as the Colonels were eliminated in the first round of the Southland Conference Championship with a 4-1 loss to SFA at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
 
Nicholls finishes the year at 15-8, which are the most wins for the team since the Southland changed its standings format in 1999.  
 
Isla Brock completed her outstanding sophomore campaign with a 2-0 day. Brock was the only Colonel to record a point in singles, and she teamed up with Emma Kranendonk for an 8-6 win in No. 2 doubles against Denise Maxl/ Macarena Acosta. Brock finished the season with an 18-2 record in singles.
 
SFA (11-10) started the day with a win at No. 3 doubles as Marie Aubert and Kateryna Nakonechna were defeated 8-2. After Brock and Kranendonk evened it up, Stephanie Barnett and Klara Skopac were outlasted on the No. 1 court, 8-6, giving SFA a 1-0 lead.
 
Brock made quick work of Laura Servise on the No. 5 court to tie the match with a 6-4, 6-0 victory. The Ladyjacks took the lead back with a 6-3, 6-3 win by Valeria Terentyeva over Nakonechna at No. 3. In the top singles match, Barnett won the first set against Malena Gordo, but lost the final two 6-1, 6-1.
 
Needing one more point to clinch the team victory, SFA secured the win after another three-set battle, this time on the No. 4 court. Skopac dropped the first set against Julia Lorca 6-3 before shutting her out in the second to even it up. In the decisive set, Lorca ended the match with a 6-2 win.
 
Aubert and Kranendonk's matches were suspended after the completion of No. 4's match. Aubert was in a close third set while Kranendonk had just evened her match with a second-set victory.
