The Colonels turned three double plays but could not slow down the Lions offensively on Sunday
Final Stats HAMMOND, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team could not overcome the hot hitting of Southeastern Louisiana University, falling 15-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions (29-20, 14-10 SLC) led off with four runs in the first inning and the Colonels (26-23, 16-8 SLC) could not slow them down as Southeastern cruised to a run-rule victory in seven innings.
Andrew Godbold blasted a three-run shot over the leftfield wall in the first, sparking an outstanding offensive performance for the Lions, who scored in every inning on the day. Southeastern added a fourth run in the first before Nicholls could close out the frame.
The Lions added three runs in the second inning, four runs in the third, one run in the fourth, two runs in the fifth, and a final run in the sixth to hand the Colonels their most lopsided loss of the year.
Brandon Jackson (3-2) took the loss for the Colonels, allowing six runs on four hits while walking three in one inning of play. Six different pitchers threw for the Colonels and all but one allowed at least one run on the day.
Andro Cutura (8-2) tossed five innings for Southeastern, allowing just one hit with five strikeouts.
Keith Cormier led Nicholls at the plate, going 2-for-3 in the game.
Justin Smith was 1-for-1 while
Marc Frazier hit 1-for-1 with a double.
Jameson Fisher went 5-for-5 with three RBIs and scored three times to lead the Lions offensively. Godbold was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a run.
The Colonels will look to right the ship against non-conference opponent Alcorn State at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Ray E. Dider Field. The Game will be broadcast live on KTIB 640 AM.
