LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team will travel to Little Rock to compete in the Crowne Plaza Hotel Invitational, taking on Arkansas-Little Rock on Friday and Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday.
The Colonels (1-1-0) got off to a hot start on the season upsetting Southern Mississippi 2-1 for the first time in school history, but had a tough time keeping up with South Alabama in their second contest, falling 3-0 in blistering temperatures.
"This is one of the toughest starts to a season we've had," Head Coach
Dylan Harrison said. "We played some really tough opponents and were able to leave with a split. Playing teams like South Alabama and Southern Miss is really going to prepare us for conference play. We have all the believe in our team and the ability that they have."
Nicholls will look to rebound on Friday against the Torjans (2-0-0) who have outscored oponents 13-0 through their first two games.
Kristy Tatom and
Kirstie Champagne lead the Colonels offensively with one goal apiece.
Kaitlyn Caro is the team-leader in assists with two and
Jess Coates has a team-high three shots on the season.
UALR is led by Arial Galletti and Quin Wilkes with two goals apiece. Four different Tojans have recorded two assists each.
Goalie
Taylor Mosley is the backbone of Nicholls' defensive effort with 11 saves.
Bre Ilkuf has two saves and Sarah Cavanagh has one save to bolster the UALR defense.
The Colonels and Trojans face off at in Little Rock, Arkansas. at 7 p.m. on Friday. Nicholls will then face the Golden Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday at 2 p.m. Visit geauxcolonels.com for coverage of this weekend's contests and live stats.
