Nicholls Volleyball Opens With a 3-1 Victory Over Alabama A&M

Final Stats HATTIESBURG, Miss. The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team defeated Alabama A&M 3-1 at the Southern Miss Invitational in their season opener on Friday at Reed Green Coliseum.

The Colonels set the tone early, taking the first set with a decisive 25-15 score. The Bulldogs answered in the second set, winning by a narrow 25-23 margin. Nicholls took the third set 25-20 before closing out the match in the fourth with a score of 27-25.
 
Newcomer Kaci Eaton had a stellar debut for the Colonels, blasting 20 kills and recording 11 digs on the afternoon. Emily Weimer, Stephanie Tobison and Kali Schwartz each had 9 kills apiece and Kaylnn Egea finished with a team-high 26 digs. Ainsley Marroccoli recorded 50 of Nicholls' 54 assists on the day.
 
Kyanna Sales led Alabama A&M with 15 kills and 16 digs. Megan Butler had a team-high 17 digs.

The Colonels will take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 10 a.m. and Southern Miss at 6 p.m. on Saturday to complete their tournament weekend.
