THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team will travel to Lorman, Miss. to take on Alcorn State in a non-conference matchup on Friday at 4 p.m.
The Colonels (3-3) are coming off of a 4-3 win over the University of Louisiana at Monroe, with
Spencer Valdespino scoring twice in the victory.
The Braves (0-1) have played just one match on the season, a 9-0 loss to Southeastern Louisiana on Aug. 28. The Lions are 6-0 and have outscored opponents 24-1 this season, so Alcorn State's lopsided loss may not be an accurate representation of the team's talent.
Nicholls is led offensively by freshmen
Kaitlyn Caro with two goals and two assists.
Jess Coates has a team-high, three assists on the year and Valdespino has two goals. The Colonels are an extremely balanced team this season with 13 different players scoring on 15 goals. Seven different players have recorded an assist on the year.
Nefaterria Phillips leads the Braves with one shot on goal. No Alcorn State players have recorded a goal or assist this season.
Taylor Mosely has been the backbone of Nicholls' defense with 28 saves on the year, while
Katherine Kelly has a team-high 469 minutes on the pitch and has been a welcomed defensive specialist to bolster the Colonels back line.
Maegan Aria has six saves for the Braves with nine goals allowed.
