Final Stats Starksville, Miss. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team dropped their Maroon Classic tournament opener against the University of Memphis 3-0 on Friday.
The Tigers (3-4) took an early lead and cruised to a 25-13 victory in the first set. The Colonels fought back in the second set, tying Memphis at 17-17. The two teams traded points with the Tigers ultimately taking a narrow 26-24 second-set victory. Memphis took the third set 25-18 to close out the match.
Kaci Eaton led the Colonels with 11 kills on the afternoon while
Kalynn Egea had 21 digs.
Ainsley Marroccoli and
Alyse Barclay had 12 and 11 assists respectively while
Emily Weimer had a team-leading four blocks.
Lauren Wright had a team-high, 10 kills for the Tigers while Aleksandra
Petronijevic contributed 16 digs. Veronica Zimmerman had 24 assists for Memphis. The Colonels will play the University of South Alabama at 11 a.m. and Mississippi State University at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
