LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team travels to Lake Charles on Friday for the first Southland Conference matchup of the season.
The Colonels (4-3) defeated Alcorn State 4-0 on Friday behind a balanced offensive effort and a strong defensive play.
The Cowgirls (2-4-1) are coming off of a 0-0 tie to the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Sunday.
In their only matchup last season Nicholls took a 3-0 victory over McNeese behind a hat trick from forward
Spencer Valdespino.
This season the Colonels have employed an extremely balanced offensive attack with 15 different players scoring a goal through seven games. Valdespino leads the team with three goals and an assist on the season. Jess Cotes has a team-high three assists and also contributed a goal, while freshmen
Kaitlyn Caro has two goals and two assists this year.
McNeese has four players who have recorded a goal and two who have recorded an assist through their seven games.
In the net,
Taylor Mosley (2-3) has recorded 28 saves with 13 goals allowed on the year and has a .683 save percentage.
Maggie Marks (1-3) has 14 saves on the season while giving up six goals.
