JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team will travel to Jacksonville, Fla. and play four matches in the University of North Florida Invitational this weekend.
The Colonels (3-6) have faced tough competition over the past few weeks and dropped their last 15 sets, but will look to get back on track in this weekend's tournament. Despite the recent hardships, the team has had a number of positives; most notably transfer
Kaci Eaton, who has made two consecutive all-tournament teams over the past two weekends.
Nicholls will open the tournament on Friday at 10 a.m. against the University of North Florida (3-7) and face the University of North Carolina at Ashville at 3 p.m. On Saturday the Colonels will take on the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (8-5) at 10 a.m. before closing out the tournament against the University of Dayton at 3 p.m.
The Osprey's of North Florida have lost their previous two matches to Campbell University and the University of South Carolina and hope to play spoiler in the Colonels' tournament-opener.
Eaton has led Nicholls offensively all season, with a team-high, 101 kills and is second on the team in digs with 69. Senior
Kalynn Egea leads the Colonels with 139 digs while
Mikayla Miller has a team-leading 17 blocks. Both Egea and Miller were selected to the Southern Mississippi Invitational all-tournament team earlier this year.
Courtney Miller leads the Ospreys with 97 kills and 73 digs on the season. Cari Whitmire has a team-high 142 digs and Cameron McGuire leads the team in blocks with 40.
