Final Stats 2 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team dropped their first match to the University of North Florida 3-1 before defeating the University of North Carolina at Ashville in straight sets to split on the opening day of the North Florida Invitational.
The Colonels (4-7) took their first set of the day 30-28 in a back-and-forth battle over the Ospreys (4-7). North Florida responded definitively with victories of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-17 to take the match.
Kaci Eaton led Nicholls with 24 kills and added 15 digs.
Kalynn Egea had a team-high 28 digs in the loss, while
Ainsley Marroccoli registered 25 assists and
Alyse Barclay added 24 assists.
Courtney Miller had a team-leading 17 kills for the Ospreys while Cari Whitmire added 27 digs.
In the second match of the day the Colonels opened with a 25-17 victory over UNC-Ashville (2-11), before adding wins of 25-21 and 25-22 to close out the match in straight sets.
Eaten led Nicholls with 13 kills and 13 digs, while Egea added 18 digs. Marroccoli had 20 assists and Barclay added 19 in the contest.
Shelby Erickson led the Bulldogs with 12 kills and Christine Lakatos had a team-high 20 digs.
The Colonels will face the University of North Carolina at Charlotte tomorrow at 9 a.m. before taking on the University of Dayton at 2 p.m. to close out the North Florida Invitational.
