Final Stats 2 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team dropped their final two matches of the North Florida Invitational on Saturday, falling 3-2 to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and 3-0 to the University of Dayton.
The Colonels (4-9) fell behind early in the first match of the day with Charlotte (11-6) taking the first two sets 25-20 and 25-19. Nicholls found another gear in the third set, taking a 25-20 victory before a dominant 25-17 win in the fourth. The Colonels were neck-and-neck with the 49ers in the final set, but a late push from Charlotte proved too much as Nicholls fell 15-11.
Kaci Eaton led the way with 22 kills and 14 digs, while
Kalynn Egea had a team-high 22 digs.
Stephanie Tobison added 10 kills and 19 digs on her 19
th birthday.
Ainsley Marroccoli and
Alyse Barclay had 26 and 23 assists respectively.
Irem Asci had a team-leading 13 kills for the 49ers, with three Charlotte players registering 21 or more digs on the day.
In the second match of the day Dayton (10-4) defeated the Colonels in straight sets 25-15, 25-18 and 25-13.
Eaton had a team-high 13 kills and Egea led Nicholls with 17 digs. Barclay had a team-leading 15 assists and Marroccoli added 10.
Alaina Turner led the Flyers with 17 kills and Janna Krafka finished with 18 digs.
Kali Schwartz received all-tournament honors after averaging 12 kills and five digs through four games on the weekend.
The Colonels will play their first home contest of the season on Thursday against Stephen F. Austin in Stopher Gymnasium at 6:30 p.m. The game will be the first of a four-game home stand for Nicholls.
