Colonels to Compete in the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic

LAFAYETTE, La. After going 2-1 in a successful season opening series, the Nicholls State University women's volleyball team will travel to Lafayette to take on the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic.

The Colonels (2-1) won their first two matches of the season before falling to the University of Southern Mississippi in their third contest of the year.

Nicholls has an opportunity for redemption this weekend, facing the Golden Eagles for a second time after playing matches with Southern University and the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

The Colonels will open with the Jaguars on Friday at 4:30 p.m. before facing the Cajuns on Saturday at 11 a.m. and finally taking on Southern Miss at 3 p.m.

Newcomer Kaci Eaton leads Nicholls in kills with 39 and is second on the team in digs with 27. Ainsley Marroccoli has 120 of the Colonels' 126 assists on the season, and senior Kalynn Egea has a team-high 57 digs. Emily Weimer leads the team in blocks with seven.

Nicholls is already fighting through a number of injuries in the young season and will look to push through those obstacles for a strong performance this weekend.
