Final Stats Lafayette, La. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team defeated Southern University 3-0 on Friday night in their first match of the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic.
The Colonels (3-1) set the tone early, taking the first set 25-13. The Jaguars (1-5) fought back in the second set, but were not able to overtake Nicholls, who won 25-20. The final set was a back-and-forth contest with both teams trading points en route to a 25-23 Colonels victory.
Kaci Eaton led Nicholls with 11 kills and nine digs.
Kalynn Egea had a team-high 14 digs, while
Stephanie Tobison had five kills to go along with 12 digs.
Alyse Barclay had a team-leading 15 assists with
Ainsley Marroccoli earned 12 assists on the night.
Marisol Macias led the Jaguars with eight kills and 11 digs. Diamond Williams had a team-high 20 digs.
The Colonels will take on Louisiana at 11 a.m. before a rematch with Southern Mississippi at 3 p.m. on Saturday to close out the weekend.
