Colonels Fall in Straight Sets on Saturday

Final Stats 1 | Final Stats 2 LAFAYETTE, La. The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team lost in straight sets to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and Southern Mississippi on Saturday in their final to matches of the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic.
 
The Colonels (3-3) entered the day with a 3-1 record and hoped to continue their success against two tough opponents.
 
In the opening match on Saturday, ULL took the first set 25-16 and second set 25-17. Nicholls fought back in the third set but ultimately fell 25-23.
 
Kaci Eaton led the Colonels in kills with 17, while Kalynn Egea had a team-high 12 digs. Alyse Barclay finished with a team-leading 15 assists and Ainsley Marroccoli had 13 assists for the squad.
 
Stacey Reilly had 13 kills and 15 digs while Andrea Hole had 30 assists to lead the Cajuns.
 
In the second matchup of the day, Nicholls took on Southern Miss for the second time in as many weekends. The Golden Eagles took the match in straight sets, 25-19, 25-12 and 25-15.
 
Stephanie Tobison and Eaton led the Colonels with eight kills apiece, while Barclay had 14 assists and Egea added 18 digs.


Nicholls will head to Starkville, Miss. on Friday to compete in the Mississippi State University Tournament. The Colonels will open the weekend on Friday at 11 a.m. against the University of Memphis.
