Colonels Make the Trek to Texas to Face ACU

ABILENE, Texas – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will play its second Southland game in Texas to start their conference road schedule as the Colonels take on Abilene Christian on Sunday, Jan. 11 at Moody Coliseum.
 
Tipoff against the Wildcats (7-5, 0-2 SLC) is scheduled for 2 p.m. The game can be listened to on KNSU 91.5 FM, with live stats available on geauxcolonels.com.
 
Nicholls (5-8, 1-1 SLC) earned its first Southland victory earlier this week, defeating Houston Baptist, 70-58, at home on Thursday. For the first time this season, the Colonels had four players score in double figures, getting career-highs from Shay Arnick and Hope Pawlowski, who both scored 15 points. While Nicholls was able to have an all-around scoring effort, the team also logged a season-high 20 steals.
 
Jenny Nash leads the team in scoring at 13.0 points per game, followed by Tia Charles (8.0) and Marina Lilly (6.5). As a team, Nicholls is averaging 59.4 team points, upping its average after reaching 70 points for the second time this season.
 
Abilene Christian enters the game with a three-game losing streak, with the last two losses coming in conference. ACU opened its Southland schedule at home against Central Arkansas, falling 66-60, and traveled to Northwestern State, losing 61-56.
 
ACU features the league's top scoring offense, averaging 74.2 points per game. A large chunk of ACU's points comes from behind the arc as the Wildcats are making a conference-best 8.2 3-pointers per game. ACU also leads the Southland in assists, dishing out 16.2 per game.
 
The Wildcats have five players averaging double figures in scoring, led by Alexis Mason at 13.1 Lizzy Dimba and Sydney Shelstead are next at 12.5 ppg, and Shelstead heads the team in rebounding at 9.6 per game.
