THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team came out slow and never picked up enough steam to overcome McNeese State, falling 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in Stopher Gym.
The Colonels (5-13, 0-7 SLC) dropped the first set, 25-18, before a 25-16 loss in the second. Nicholls came out with more energy after the break, but McNeese finished off the match with a narrow 25-21 set victory.
Alyse Barclay led the Nicholls offense with 20 assists.
Kaci Eaton had a team-high 12 kills and added 13 digs in the loss.
Anna Niederhauser paced the squad with 18 digs and registered seven kills.
Emily Weimer finished with two blocks to lead the team.
Kelly Graham (27 assists), Bridget Justice (20 digs) and Malina Sanchez led the Cowgirls on the day.
The Colonels will battle the undefeated league-leader, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22 in Thibodaux.
