THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team has a busy week ahead, with matches against Abilene Christian, Southeastern La. and New Orleans, all on the road. The Colonels face the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday in northwest Texas, before returning closer to home for contests against the Lions at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Hammond and the Privateers at 2 p.m. on Saturday in New Orleans.
Nicholls (5-15, 0-9 SLC) is looking for its first Southland Conference win after a slow start to league play.
Abilene Christian (6-17, 6-4 SLC) has proved to be a solid, consistent team against conference opponents, taking care of business against the bottom half of teams in the standings. All four of the Wildcats' Southland losses have all come at the hands of top-five SLC squads. ACU is coming off of consecutive victories over the Privateers and Southeastern La.
The Lions (10-13, 4-5 SLC) have a more inconsistent Southland Conference resume. Southeastern La. downed third-ranked Stephen F. Austin, but lost to twelfth-ranked New Orleans. The Lions are on a two-game skid, after falling to Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian.
New Orleans (12-13, 2-7 SLC) has struggled in Southland play, but swept Southeastern La. on Oct. 10 and earned a 3-1 win against the Colonels on Oct. 6. The Privateers are coming off of consecutive losses to the Bears and Cardinals.
Alyse Barclay (523 assists),
Stephanie Tobison (260 digs),
Anna Niederhauser (189 kills and 26 service aces) and
Emily Weimer (45 blocks) lead Nicholls.
Kaci Eaton has paced the squad with 3.86 kills per set and 4.24 points per set since returning from injury.
Sarah Siemens (787 assists), Madison Hoover (386 digs), Jennifer Loerch (280 kills), Lauren Walker (80 blocks) and Kendall Bosse (16 service aces) lead the Abilene Christian.
Mikayla Shipper (497 assists), Brooke Balser (303 digs), Landry Bullock (240 kills), Veronica Turk (40 blocks) and Monica Ramon (25 service aces) pace the Lions.
Celeste Ramirez (699 assists), Lauren Levy (259 digs), Blessing Dunn (201 kills), Kaitlyn Grice (70 blocks) and Shaylene Reimer (29 service aces) lead New Orleans.
Following this week's action, the Colonels will face a three-game home stand against Incarnate Word (Thursday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m.), Abilene Christian (Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m.) and Southeastern La. (Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m.).
