HAMMOND, La. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team fell, 3-1, to Southeastern La. on Thursday night, in one of the most evenly matched contests of the season.
The Colonels (6-15, 1-10 SLC) and Lions (11-13, 5-5 SLC) finished with only a two-point differential over four sets of action. The combined four-set total was 96-94, in favor of Southeastern La.
The Lions took set one, 25-23, barely edging out the Colonels over the final few points. Nicholls responded in the second set, earning a 25-20 victory to tie the match at one apiece. After the break, Southeastern La. was able to escape with narrow set victories of 25-22 and 26-24, to close out the match.
Anna Niederhauser played outstanding for a second-consecutive game, finishing with a team-high 15 kills and adding 10 digs.
Lucija Barac and
Alyse Barclay combined for 39 assists, while
Kaci Eaton and
Stephanie Tobison each contributed 12 digs. Eaton added 11 kills in the loss.
Sydney Lerille and
Kali Schwartz led with four blocks apiece, while Schwartz added 10 kills on the night.
Haley Baker (32 assists), Landry Bullock (19 kills), Monica Ramon (15 digs) and Veronica Turk (four blocks) paced the Lions.
The Colonels will see their next action a bit closer to home as the team travels to New Orleans for a matchup at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Following this week's action, the Colonels will face a three-game home stand against Incarnate Word (Thursday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m.), Abilene Christian (Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m.) and Southeastern La. (Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m.).
