THIBODAUX, La. – After a slow start to Southland Conference play, the Nicholls State University women's volleyball team will look to close out the season on a high note as the squad returns to the friendly confines of Stopher Gym for battles with Incarnate Word (Thursday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m.), Abilene Christian (Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m.) and Southeastern La. (Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m.).
Saturday's match will be Senior Day, honoring the Colonels' lone senior,
Alyse Barclay.
Nicholls (6-16, 1-11 SLC) is coming off of a difficult 3-0 loss to New Orleans on Saturday, despite taking each set down to the wire.
The Cardinals (7-14, 5-7 SLC) were riding a three-game winning streak, but dropped a 3-1 match to Abilene Christian on Saturday.
The Wildcats (7-18, 7-5 SLC) have won three of their last four contests, including Saturday's victory over Incarnate Word. The Colonels' only conference victory came against Abilene Christian on Oct. 26.
The Lions (11-14, 5-6 SLC) have dropped three of their last four matches, but picked up a 3-1 win over Nicholls on Oct. 29.
Barclay (590 assists),
Stephanie Tobison (305 digs),
Anna Niederhauser (230 kills) and
Emily Weimer (55 blocks) lead the Colonels. Since returning from injury,
Kaci Eaton has averaged team-highs in attacks per set (11.5), points per set (4.20) and kills per set (3.75).
Taylor McClelland (412 assists), Autumn Lockley (251 kills), Claudia Hernandez (224 digs) and Bryaunea Hall (69 blocks) pace the Cardinals.
Sarah Siemens (870 assists), Madison Hoover (430 digs), Jennifer Loerch (318) and Lauren Walker (88 blocks) headline the Wildcats' attack. When Abilene Christian and Nicholls faced off earlier this season, Siemens totaled 50 assists, Hoover earned 30 digs and Loerch finished with 24 kills.
Mikayla Shippy (549 assists), Brooke Balser (343 digs), Landry Bullock (281 kills) and Veronica Turk (60 blocks) lead Southeastern La. In the last meeting between the Lions and Colonels on Oct. 29, Haley Baker dished out 32 assists, Landry Bullock picked up 19 kills and Monia Ramon earned a team-high 15 digs.
Nicholls will close out the 2015 season in Lake Charles against McNeese State on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 12:30 p.m.
