THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team put together their strongest performance at the perfect time, earning a 3-0 straight set victory over Abilene Christian on Senior Day.
 
The Colonels (8-16, 3-11 SLC) and Wildcats (8-19, 8-6 SLC) played an incredibly even match, with 36 ties and 16 lead changes, but the Red and Grey found a way to close out each set.
 
Nicholls and Abilene Christian traded points through set one, before the Colonels were able to pull away and take a 15-11 advantage. The Wildcats fought back, notching the set at 22 apiece, but Nicholls eventually edged out Abilene Christian, 27-25.
 
The second set was a back-and-forth battle featuring 15 ties. The teams were tied at 21-21 before the Colonels scored four straight to win the set.
 
The Wildcats came out strong in the third, desperate to force a forth set. Abilene Christian led for the majority of the frame, including a 16-14 advantage midway through the set. Nicholls used a 6-1 run to recapture the lead, and took care of business over the final few points to capture a 25-21 victory and close out the match.
 
Senior Day honorees Alyse Barclay (25 assists) and Kaci Eaton (12 kills and 10 digs) both put together stellar performances on their special day. Anna Niederhauser tied a career-high with 17 kills and added 15 digs in the win. Stephanie Tobison led the team with 17 digs, while Lucija Barac dished out 16 assists and a career-high four service aces. Emily Weimer and Kali Schwartz each posted four blocks to pace the squad.
 
Sarah Siemens (27 assists), Madison Hoover (21 digs), Jennifer Loerch (nine kills) and Lauren Walker (four blocks) led the Wildcats.
 
The Colonels will play their final home match of the season on Tuesday as the team hosts Southeastern La. at 6:30 p.m.
