THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University men's basketball team will look to bounce back after consecutive let downs as it hosts New Orleans in the team's annual Stuff Stopher game at 6:30 p.m. on Monday in Stopher Gym.
The Colonels (5-13, 2-6 SLC) are coming off of back-to-back losses against some of the league's top competition, falling 80-51 at Northwestern State, and 69-58 against Incarnate Word. The Privateers (6-11, 2-6 SLC) are coming off of an 87-67, win over Central Arkansas, but dropped the previous four games.
New Orleans owns the all-time series against Nicholls 14-6, but the teams split last year's two meetings with each squad holding serve on their home court.
The Colonels are averaging 61.4 points and holding opponents to 73.2. Nicholls is shooting 42.1 percent from the floor, 26.6 percent from beyond the arc and 60.3 percent from the free throw line. The team has a -2.1 rebounding margin and a -2.8 turnover margin this season.
Amin Torres leads the Colonels offensively, averaging 11.8 points per game.
Richie Lewis averages 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals, both team-highs.
Sam McBeath paces the squad with 6.4 rebounds per contest and
Liam Thomas is swatting 1.8 shots per game.
Gill Christavious spearheads the Privateer offense with 11.9 points per contest. Kevin Hill is second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.8 points, and grabs 6.9 boards per game to lead the team. Nate Frye dishes out 2.9 assists per contest.
Nicholls will host New Orleans on Monday for the team's Stuff Stopher game. The event will be a Red Out, with the first 200 students receiving spirit sticks. The Student Government Association will hand out 40 t-shirts and pom poms for early-arriving students. Monday's game will be broadcast live on KQKI 95.3 FM.
