THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University men's basketball team will look to get back on track by spoiling Valentine's Day for Southeastern La. at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in Stopher Gym.
The Colonels (7-14, 4-7 SLC) earned back-to-back victories against New Orleans and McNeese State before dropping a matchup with Incarnate Word in San Antonio on Tuesday. The Lions (7-16, 4-6 SLC) opened conference play 2-6, but picked up consecutive wins over McNeese State and Abilene Christian entering this weekend's contest.
Southeastern La. owns the all-time series against Nicholls 50-42, but the Colonels went 2-1 against the Lions last season, including a 71-64 victory on March 12 in the Southland Conference Tournament.
T.J. Carpenter leads Nicholls offensively with a team-high 10.3 points per game and is second on the team in both rebounds (4.5) and assists (2.2).
Sam McBeath paces the squad with 6.2 boards per game, while
Richie Lewis leads the team in both assists (2.4) and steals (1.7).
Liam Thomas averages a team-leading 1.8 blocks per contest.
Zay Jackson spearheads the Southeastern La. offensive attack with 15.3 points and 4.5 assists per game, while averaging a team-leading 1.3 steals. DeVonte Upson grabs 7.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per contest, both team-highs.
The Colonels host Southeastern La. on Valentine's Day, before hitting the road for a 6 p.m. matchup with Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, Feb. 21 in Nacogdoches, Texas. Both games will be broadcast live on KQKI 95.3 FM.
