TROY, Ala.  – The Nicholls State University men's tennis team took part in the Troy University Trojan Jamboree and the Colonels came up empty on the first day, falling to host Troy, 4-3, before losing 6-1 against Georgia Southern.
 
The Colonels (1-4) did not have much success in doubles in either match, falling in the four completed matches to trail 1-0. In the match against Troy (9-4), the Colonel took the lead early in singles by winning the No. 5 and 6 matches. Kieran Cronin and Max Sinn both won in straight sets to give Nicholls a 2-1 edge.
 
But in the top two matches, Sam Meessen lost the No. 1 pairing against #89 Gabriel Dias, 6-4, 6-2, and Partha Adavelly fell in the No. 2 match with the set scores flipped. With a 3-2 lead, Troy clinched the victory when Pablo Moreno defeated Bernard Wezeman on the No. 4 court. Evan Karatzas closed out the match with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 3 to make the final.
 
Against GSU (3-4), Wezeman was the lone Colonel to come away with a point, winning the No. 4 match against Jose Landin, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6.
 
Nicholls will continue play on Saturday in the Jamboree against South Carolina State and Florida A&M.
