Nicholls to Host Northwestern State on Monday Night

THIBODAUX, La. With just five regular-season games left on the schedule, the Nicholls State University men's basketball team will look to make a late push for seeding as they face a tough Northwestern State squad at 6 p.m. on Monday in Stopher Gym.

The Colonels (7-16, 4-9 SLC) fell 86-71 in their most recent contest against Southland-leading Stephen F. Austin. The Demons (15-10, 10-4 SLC) are currently ranked third in the conference and riding a three-game winning streak.

This season Nicholls is averaging 62.4 points and allowing 72 to its opponents. The Colonels shoot 43.2 percent from the floor and 27.1 percent from three-point range, while surrendering 44.6 and 36.7 percent respectively. Nicholls has a -1.5 rebounding margin and -2.7 turnover margin through 23 games.

T.J. Carpenter and Amin Torres average 10.1 points apiece to lead the Colonels offensively. Richie Lewis dishes out a team-leading 2.5 assists per contest and Sam McBeath paces the squad with 6.2 rebounds a game.

Zeek Woodley and Jalan West spearhead the Northwestern State offense. Woodley averages 22.6 points to lead the team and West tosses 7.3 assists per contest. Marvin Frazier grabs a team-high 5.7 boards per game.

The Demons defeated Nicholls 80-51 in Natchitoches back on Jan. 26 behind 18 points from Ta'Jon Welcome and nine assists by West. Liam Thomas had 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks for the Colonels in the loss.

Nicholls will host Northwestern State on Monday before heading to Lake Charles for a 3 p.m. showdown with McNeese State on Saturday. Both games will be broadcast live on KQKI 95.3 FM.
