BEAUMONT, Texas  – Marie Aubert, Stephanie Barnett and Klara Skopac each won in both singles and doubles as the Nicholls State University women's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over Lamar on Saturday in Southland Conference action at the Thomas Family Tennis Center.
 
The win improved the Colonels' record to 6-2 on the year and 2-0 in Southland play. Lamar fell to 3-7 and 0-3.
 
The teams split the first two doubles matches as Barnett and Skopac won at No. 1 over Katya Lapayeva and Carolina Maso, 8-3, but LU took the No. 2 match, 8-2. Aubert and Milou Pietersz then gave Nicholls a 1-0 lead with a close 8-6 victory over Stephanie Marchena and Hanna Elfving.
 
In singles, four of the victories for the Colonels came in straight sets. Barnett cruised on the No. 1 court with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Lapayeva and Aubert defeated Andrea Ivanovic at No. 3, 6-4, 7-5. On courts 5 and 6, Brock stayed undefeated in singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Elfving and Kateryna Nakonechna won 7-5, 6-2 against Marchena, respectively.
 
At No. 2, Skopac came out on top in a three-set battle against Anna Spengler. Skopac won the first set, 7-5, lost the second, 6-2, and took the tiebreaker by the score of 12-10. Pietersz also played in a three-set match at No. 4, but was defeated 11-9 in the tiebreaker.
 
The Colonels will wrap up the weekend with a Sunday match at Sam Houston State. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
