All Smiles at Annual Nicholls Volleyball Alumni Scrimmage

THIBODAUX, La.The current Nicholls State University volleyball team defeated the Nicholls alumni squad in straight sets on Saturday afternoon in a friendly exhibition match featuring former Colonels spanning over 20 years.

Saturday's first set was a back-and-forth affair with the 2015 team earning a hard-fought 25-21 victory. The current squad warmed up, taking the second set decisively, 25-11, and finished with a 25-16 set to win the match.

"It took us a while to get settled in, but once we did we were cool as cucumbers and got to show everyone how good we are going to be," senior Alyse Barclay said. "We had a great showing, but it's no where close to our full potential. It's awesome to play against the alums every year and it's always a hard fought game."

A Tauranga, New Zealand native, Barclay celebrated her 22nd birthday on Saturday.

Nicholls will open regular-season play on Friday, Aug. 28 as the Colonels take part in a tournament hosted by Southern Mississippi. The team will face Southern on Friday at 5 p.m., before taking on Mercer and Southern Miss on Saturday.

Admission to all home volleyball games is absolutely free this season. Come out and support your Colonels!
