THIBODAUX, La. – After a rough weekend on the road, the Nicholls State University women's soccer team returns home to host Alcorn State at 4 p.m. on Friday in the last non-conference matchup of the season.
The Colonels (1-3-1) dropped two hard-fought matches against Mississippi State and Louisiana Tech over the weekend, but will face the Braves (0-1) at the Nicholls Soccer Complex, where the Red and Grey haven't lost a game since Oct. 24 of last year.
Alcorn State has played only one match in the 2015 season, falling 10-0 at the hands of Northwestern State. The Demons outshot the Braves 40-2 through 90 minutes of action.
Senior forward
Spencer Valdespino leads Nicholls offensively with four goals through five matches this year. A preseason All-Southland First Team selection, Valdespino holds team-highs in both shots (17) and shots on goal (11). Senior midfielder
Jess Coates paces the squad with two assists, and is second on the team in both shots (11) and shots on goal (five). Coates joined Valdespino on the preseason All-Southland First Team, and was named as a candidate for the prestigious Senior Class Award on Friday.
The Colonels have utilized all three goalkeepers this season, with junior
Taylor Mosley and senior
Amanda Boylson seeing the most action. Mosley and Boylson have each logged over 172 minutes on the pitch, and have combined for 19 saves with eight goals allowed. Senior
