Final Stats NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team was unable to get any traction against one of the top programs in the nation, falling 3-0 against TCU on Saturday at the Devlin Fieldhouse.
The Colonels (3-6) were their own worst enemy in the match, committing 26 attack errors and 11 service errors. The Red and Grey showed marginal improvement in each set, but were outmatched against the high-powered Horned Frogs (7-1). Nicholls led only once in the match, when the team scored the opening point of set two.
TCU jumped out to an early led and never looked back, cruising to victories of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-16.
Anna Niederhauser led the Colonels offensively with nine kills, followed by
Kali Schwartz (eight) and
Kayla Mashburn (six).
Alyse Barclay finished with a team-leading 17 assists, and
Stephanie Tobison earned 10 digs to pace the squad.
The Horned Frogs were led offensively by Regan McGuire (eight kills) and Alexia Heist (15 assists). J. Bergeson had a team-high six digs.
Nicholls will next head to Houston for the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup, running Sept. 18-19. The Colonels will face Prairie View A&M (10 a.m.) and the University of Houston (3 p.m.) on Friday, before a Saturday matchup against Alabama A&M (10 a.m.).
