HOUSTON, Texas – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team picked up momentum in their final non-conference weekend, finishing 2-1 overall at the Flo Hymen Collegiate Cup, after closing out the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Alabama A&M on Saturday.
The Colonels (5-7) opened the first set with a service ace and never looked back, earning set wins of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-14, en route to a match victory over the Lady Bulldogs (1-14).
Anna Niederhauser led the way offensively with 13 kills and added six digs, four assists and three service aces in an all-around performance.
Kaci Eaton finished second on the team with 10 kills, despite playing only two sets.
Kayla Mashburn totaled eight kills, seven digs and three aces.
Alyse Barclay earned 30 assists and
Stephanie Tobison had 10 digs, both team-highs.
Kali Schwartz paced the squad with three blocks in the win.
Alabama A&M was led by Ashundria McNeal (15 kills), Megan Butler (24 assists) and Lauren Butler (14 digs) in the loss.
The Colonels will open Southland Conference play on the road against Stephen F. Austin on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Nacogdoches, Texas before battling Northwestern State on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Natchitoches, La.
