LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team suffered its worst loss of the year as the Colonels were on the wrong end of a 4-0 decision against McNeese on Friday night at Cowgirl Field.
The loss put Nicholls at 4-6-1 on the season and 1-4-1 in conference play, while McNeese improved record to 5-8 and 2-4.
McNeese fired off 18 shots compared to just five for the Colonels.
Blaire Laiche came off the bench to account for three of the five shots, but Nicholls was shutout for the third time this season.
It did not take long for the Cowgirls to grab the lead as Rachel Palet scored just seven minutes in for an early 1-0 advantage. In the second half, McNeese pulled away with goals by Savannah LaRicci, Gabi D'Alesandro and Sarah Ortiz.
Jade Gallaher took the loss in the net, finishing with five saves. Annie Bravenec had just one save to pick up the win for McNeese.
The Colonels will return home next weekend for their final two matches of the season, hosting SFA (Oct. 14) and Sam Houston (Oct. 16). For the latest news about the soccer team, follow the Colonels on Twitter @Nicholls_SOC.
