THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will look to continue its strong play on its home floor as the Colonels take on Jackson State Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in Stopher Gym.
The Colonels (1-2) made their Stopher debut last Saturday and were impressive in their 73-54 victory over instate rival ULM. The Colonels forced 28 turnovers by the Warhawks and were in control for most of the game to earn their first win of the season.
Senior
Hope Pawlowski has had an outstanding start to her senior campaign, averaging 15.3 points and 4.3 steals through the first three games. Pawlowski has wreaked havoc on opposing offenses throughout her career, including leading the Colonels to a top 20 finish in the NCAA in steals last season. So far this season, Nicholls has totaled 42 steals for a 14.0 average.
The Colonels have a total of four players averaging double figures in points, with
Cassidy Barrios nearly posting a double-double with 12.7 points and 8.0 rebounds.
Taylor Morrison is third on the team with 10.7 points and
Tykeria Williams is at 10.0 ppg.
Jackson State heads to Thibodaux with a 3-0 record, with all three wins coming against non Division-I opponents. JSU had a pair of blowout victories with a 57-52 win over Lane in between.
The Lady Tigers are led by Derica Wiggins with 15.7 points per game. Wiggins ranks sixth in the SWAC in scoring and is second in steals (3.3) and fourth in 3-pointers made (7). In the last outing against LeMoyne Owen, she poured in a game-high 29 points while adding five rebounds and five assists.
Following Tuesday's game, the Colonels will hit the road for their next four contests. Nicholls will have two games in Jacksonville, Fla. this weekend with matchups against Jacksonville University and North Florida.
