THIBODAUX, La. – After coming up short by two points in its last road game, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team put together two dominating performances at home and will look to continue its winning ways in the JU Thanksgiving Classic, starting Friday at Historic Swisher Gym.
Nicholls (2-2) opens the classic on Friday at 1 p.m. against host Jacksonville before taking on North Florida at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Friday's game against JU will be streamed live on ESPN3.
The Colonels are coming off an 83-76 win over Jackson State on Tuesday, but the game was not as close as the final score indicated. Nicholls built a 16-point lead in the final minutes before JSU knocked down three 3-pointers to end the game.
The defense caused problems for the visitors all game, as the Lady Tigers had 30 turnovers. In the previous game, Nicholls caused 28 in the win over ULM.
Sophomore
Cassidy Barrios recorded her second double-double of the season with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while also adding six assists, three steals and one blocked shot. Barrios leads the Colonels in scoring this season, averaging 15.3 points.
Jacksonville posts a 2-2 record as well following its 64-52 loss to South Florida. Sherranda Reddick leads the team with 19.3 points per game, while Jasmyn Brown is at 11.5.
North Florida is 3-2 on the season after falling to Xavier, 83-46. UNF also has two players scoring in double figures in Tesh Hanson (16.6 ppg) and Claire Ioannidis (14.6).
