Colonels begin home stand Sunday against Mobile

THIBODAUX, La. – After playing nine of its first 11 games on the road, the Nicholls State University men's basketball team will begin a four-game home stand Sunday as the Colonels host Mobile University at 4 p.m. at Stopher Gym.

The matchup against the Rams (5-4) will be lone game before the holiday break. The Colonels will then host Spring Hill College on Dec. 28 before starting conference play with games against UIW (Dec. 31) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Jan. 2).

Nicholls has posted a 5-6 overall record through nonconference play, despite its brutal schedule. With wins in their next two games, the Colonels would finish over .500 in nonconference games for the first time since the 2010-11 season and the seven wins would match the most since 2008-09.

The Colonels are 2-0 at Stopher Gym this season, averaging over 90 points per game and have an average margin of victory of 31.5 points. In the two home contests, DeAndre Harris poured in 39 points while Johnathan Bell and Ja'Dante Frye are averaging 12.5 and 12.0, respectively. Frye enters the game needing 20 points to become the 25th player in program history to score 1,000 career points.

Mobile, a NAIA Division I program, is coming off a 74-64 loss to city rival Spring Hill. The Rams have played one NCAA Division I opponent, South Alabama, and were defeated 77-46.

Nicholls and Mobile played last season, with the Colonels coming away with an 80-58 victory. Frye led three players in doubles figures with 21 points, and Luka Kamber hit three 3-pointers and scored 15 points.
