THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team wraps up its non-conference schedule with an afternoon matchup against Memphis Wednesday at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Tipoff against the Tigers is slated for 1 p.m.
 
Following a strong start, the Colonels (3-7) aim to end a three-game skid before heading into Southland Conference play on New Year's Eve. Nicholls secured wins over ULM, Jackson State and Grambling before dropping its last three games, including its first home loss last Wednesday against Troy. The win against Grambling came on the road, where the Colonels are 1-5 this season.
 
Nicholls is averaging 66.4 points a game, shooting at a 34.9 percent clip. Starting five guards, the offense has relied heavily on the 3-point shot as the team has fired off 283 from long range, which is over 100 more than the opposition. Emani White (12.0 ppg) leads the team with 26 made 3-pointers, followed by Tykeria Williams (9.5) and Taylor Morrison (11.9) with 18 each.
 
Memphis (5-6) has won two games in a row, including a win over LA Tech which defeated Nicholls by 16 to start the Colonels' three-game losing streak. The Tigers also have a win over a Southland member this season, defeating Northwestern State, 54-38, to close out November.
 
Memphis is led by 6-foot-1 junior forward Cheyenne Creighton, who is averaging 14.7 points and 7.4 rebounds. She paces three players averaging double figures for an offense that puts up 58.3 points per game.
 
Wednesday marks the first meeting between the programs. The Colonels last made the trip to Tennessee in 2014 to play in the TSU Thanksgiving Classic. In the two games, Nicholls earned a split with a one-point loss to Youngstown State and an overtime win against Norfolk State.
