THIBODAUX, La. -
The Nicholls State University Athletics Department announced its 2016 Colonel Football Tailgate Concert Series lineup, along with new tailgating policies and promotional game day information on Tuesday.

"We are very excited about our band lineup and promotional schedule for the 2016 season. Last year we had an overwhelmingly positive response about our tailgating environment. This year we decided to step up our game with the help of SPA and the Nicholls Veterans by bringing in American Idol Star MacKenzie Bourg for Homecoming," said Brandon Ruttley, Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs. "The great thing about Nicholls is that everyone on campus pitches in to make sure that we have the very best fan experience possible."

The Colonel Football Tailgate Concert series will kick-off on September 17th, with local favorite Snapper and the Fishsticks. This 9 piece group complete with a powerful horn section has been entertaining crowds throughout Louisiana and the surrounding states for over a decade.

Headlining this season's concert series will be MacKenzie Bourg, a finalist on American Idol and Louisiana native, will kick-off the Homecoming game on October 8th when the Colonels take on the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks.

Family Day and Hall of Fame game will be held on October 22nd when Nicholls takes on Sam Houston State. Fans will be treated to a wide array of activities for people of all ages. The Velvet Sky Band, a six piece variety cover band from Lafourche and Terrebonne Parish that covers artists including Stevie Wonder, Little Big Town, John Mayer, Journey, Zach Brown Band, Bruno Mars and much more will rock the Colonel Tailgate Stage.

Thursday November 3rd, the athletic department will be celebrating Nicholls women's athletics with its annual Women's Night Out event. On stage for the mid-day tailgate show will be father and son duo, Reese and Peyton Chiasson, a current student at Nicholls State University. This duo has played multiple times at the Thibodaux favorite Boogie on the Bayou.

Closing out our Colonel Tailgate Concert Series on November 17th will Russ Cheramie. Cheramie is a local talent and Nicholls alum who has drawn a following around Thibodaux for many years now. Nicholls will also be celebrating Senior Day as the football team takes on in-state rivals Southeastern.

The athletic department has worked with food and beverages provider Sodexo to provide fans with wider variety of food options with a Cajun flair, more beer options, and better pricing.
This season fans will be asked to exit the tailgate area 15 minutes prior to kickoff and enter the game. Fans choosing not to attend the game will still be asked to vacate the tailgating area, in a concentrated effort to fill the stadium in support of our football team.

"Everyone in Nicholls Athletics has been working hard to improve the game day experience for our players, coaches and fans," said Ruttley. "When our players take the field on the road, the stadiums are full; we must make that happen at John L Guidry Stadium. We are asking all our fans to make a concerted effort to arrive at their seats at least 15 minutes prior to kickoff. If we all work together as a team, we will make John L Guidry Stadium one of the best home atmospheres in college football."
