THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University soccer team will make the long trek to Texas this weekend for two matches, taking on Abilene Christian on Friday night (7 p.m.) before a Sunday matchup with UIW (1 p.m.).

Nicholls (3-2-1, 0-0-1) will be searching for its first Southland win after tying Lamar in the conference opener. The teams had to battle wet field conditions for the entire 110 minutes of the double overtime stalemate, resulting in the Colonels' first tie in league play since its 1-1 match with Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 1, 2013.

The Colonels hold a 22-4 goal advantage over its opponents this season, helped by a plus-18 margin in wins over Southern and Grambling. In the other four matches, the goals are even at four each.

Abilene Christian (2-6-1, 1-0) is in its fourth season of competition in the Southland. The Wildcats opened conference play with a 4-0 shutout over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Last season, ACU cruised to a 4-1 victory over Nicholls in Thibodaux.

UIW (1-5-1, 0-1) host Southeastern Louisiana on Friday night before taking on the Colonels. The Cardinals' lone win was against Prairie View A&M, but their losses have come against stiff competition such as Baylor, Houston and UTSA. UIW also picked up a win last season over the Colonels with a 2-1 triumph at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.

Following the trip to Texas, Nicholls returns home for its next two matches hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Sept. 30) and Houston Baptist (Oct. 2).
