Colonels look to remain unbeaten at home Saturday vs. Lamar

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University men's and women's basketball teams will host Lamar University for a Saturday doubleheader at Stopher Gym. The women tipoff at 1 p.m. and the men will follow at 3 p.m.

STORYLINES
- Nicholls stayed undefeated at home this season by defeating Abilene Christian, 62-59, in its annual Stuff Stopher game Thursday night. The Colonels are 7-0 at home, including a 3-0 mark in the Southland.
- Senior Johnathan Bell scored a team-high 20 points, including two free throws in the final seconds to help the Colonels fend off ACU's comeback. It marked a season-high for Bell and it was his second 20-point effort in his two-year career.
- Liam Thomas continues to be a one-man wrecking crew around the basket as he tied his own single-game record with nine blocked shots in the win over Abilene Christian. Thomas leads the NCAA with an astounding 4.21 blocks per game and he already has 80 for the season, which is five shy of tying his own program single-season record he set last year. Thomas also grabbed 13 rebounds in the win vs. ACU, which tied his career best.
- After a fast 3-1 start in conference, Lamar has dropped its last two games, including a loss on a half-court buzzer-beater by ACU.
- The Cardinals picked up one of the league's most notable wins in nonconference, defeating Oregon State, 63-60, on Nov. 16.
- Lamar is led by Colton Weisbrod who is averaging 15.9 points and 9.1 rebounds. Weisbrod leads the Southland with eight double-doubles and 31st in the NCAA.
