THIBODAUX, La. – Coming off its first Southland Conference win of the season, the Nicholls State University volleyball squad hopes to ride that momentum when it welcomes the University of Central Arkansas Thursday and Northwestern State University Saturday for matches at Stopher Gym.
Behind double-doubles from senior outside hitter
Stephanie Tobison (13 kills, 11 digs) and junior setter
Jade Piper (42 assists, 13 digs), the Colonels (3-17, 1-6 SLC) reigned victorious against Abilene Christian Friday in their first five-setter of the season. Tobison is averaging 2.9 digs and a team-high 1.9 kills per set in league play.
Nicholls limited the Wildcats to a .113 attacking percentage, the lowest mark in a conference match since UIW's .094 clip on Nov. 5, 2015.
UCA

The Sugar Bears (16-2, 5-1 SLC) have won five matches in a row since being swept by Stephen F. Austin in their conference opener. UCA is the highest ranked Southland school in the RPI at 73.
The Sugar Bears rank atop the SLC in aces per set (1.7), assists per set (12.8) and kills per set (14.0). Right-side hitter Samantha Anderson fronts the conference in hitting percentage (.349) while setter Elizabeth Armstrong paces the league in assists per set (10.5).

Northwestern State

The Lady Demons (8-12, 3-2 SLC) are on a two-match winning streak after sweeping Incarnate Word and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.
Northwestern State is paced offensively by Reagan Rogers (3.0 k/s) and Hannah Brister (2.4 k/s). Rogers has led the squad in kills in four of five conference matches.
