Colonels travel to Texas for short road swing at Lamar, SFA

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University volleyball team heads to the Lone Star State for matches at Lamar and Stephen F. Austin on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

The Colonels (3-19, 1-8 SLC) are coming off of two tough four-set losses to UCA and a surging Northwestern State.

Against the Sugar Bears, freshman outside hitter Imanie Williams struck for 13 kills on a .400 attacking percentage, both SLC career highs. Senior outside hitter Stephanie Tobison also set a new league-match career high with 16 kills versus SFA.

Nicholls dropped its match to the Lady Demons despite 10 kills from Williams and a near double-double by Tobison (14 digs, nine kills). Tobison and Williams are 1-2, respectively, with 73 and 65 kills in conference play. Junior setter Jade Piper has accumulated a team-high three double-doubles in league contests.

The Cardinals (3-15, 1-7 SLC) have dropped their last three matches, including a five-set thriller with UNO despite a career-high 21 kills from Tomar Thomas. Thomas is Lamar's go-to offensive threat, accumulating 106 kills in league play, 32 more than the next highest output.

In the SLC, Thomas and setter Haley Morton rank fifth in kills and assists per set, respectively.

The Lady Jacks' (19-5, 7-1 SLC) five-match winning streak has lifted them to second in the league standings. SFA sits in the Top 5 in all six major statistical categories, including a conference-best .307 attacking percentage.

That efficient mark is propelled by Anyia Williams (.551), Makenzee Hanna (.382) and Danae Daron (.329) as the trio boasts top-10 marks.
