THIBODAUX, La. – With its sights set on claiming a berth in the 2017 Southland Conference Soccer Tournament, the Nicholls State University soccer squad faces UCA Friday and Northwestern State Sunday at the Nicholls Soccer Complex. Sunday's match will serve as Senior Day for Kirstie Champagne, Nicole Dupin, Mie Elvestad, Katherine Kelly and Emily Werenskiold.

The Colonels (5-9-1, 2-5-1 SLC) are currently in ninth place in the conference standings. The top-eight teams will play in the SLC Tournament. Nicholls has seven points, three behind Sam Houston State and Texas A&M -Corpus Christi. The Colonels own head-to-head tiebreakers over the Islanders and Abilene Christian (12 points | sixth).

Nicholls had a positive result Friday when it played to a scoreless draw with the Bearkats. The Colonels fell 3-0 at SFA Sunday despite matching the Ladyjacks with 10 shots.

In league play, junior midfielder Haylee Atwell has a team-high two goals while freshman midfielder Hannah Bodron spearheads the team with two assists.
Nicholls has won two of three Sunday matches in league play. Considering all contests, the Colonels keepers rank 27th in Division I with 6.5 saves per game.

UCA
Friday, Oct. 20 | 4 p.m.

The Sugar Bears have 15 points and sit in fifth place in the league standings. UCA split its past two matches, falling to Corpus Christi 3-1 before besting HBU 2-0.

Ashley Smith scored in both matches as she and Dauna Mounie pace the Sugar Bears with four goals. Alex Moore has recorded a team-high five assists.

Northwestern State
Sunday, Oct. 22 | 1 p.m.

Despite returning 10 starters to a squad that finished fourth in the league last season, the Lady Demons (5-10, 1-7 SLC) are tied with UIW in last place.
Northwestern State has scored at least one goal in seven of eight conference contests, but the unit also allowed 20 in that timeframe.

Brittany Caserma has four goals in conference play and a team-high seven on the year.
