NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Nicholls State University volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision, 25-13, 25-19, 25-13, to Stephen F. Austin Saturday at Shelton Gym.

Junior Brieanna Hill paced the Colonels (4-20, 2-9 SLC) with a match-high 11 kills. Senior Sydney Lerille and freshman Imanie Williams totaled seven kills each. Lerille swung at a .375 clip, committing just one error in 16 attempts.

The Ladyjacks (21-5, 9-1 SLC) were lifted by Haley Coleman's 10 kills and Lexus Cain's 14 digs. SFA held an 8-0 advantage in aces, a 9-1 margin in blocks and hit .400 (39-5-85) as a unit.

The Ladyjacks attacked at a .421 attacking percentage in the opening frame, using five- and six-point scoring runs to easily take the set.

The second set was the most competitive as Hill and Lerille turned in four kills each. After ties at 14 and 15, SFA took control by tallying five of the next six points.

Nicholls was within one at 7-6 in the third when the Ladyjacks countered with an 8-1 run to seize momentum and eventually close the match.

The Colonels return to action Saturday versus McNeese. First serve in Stopher Gym is set for 1 p.m. CT.
