Colonels to host McNeese Friday

THIBODAUX, La. – Coming off of its second consecutive Sunday victory, the Nicholls State University soccer team looks to extend that winning streak to two when it faces McNeese State University on Friday at 4 p.m. at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.

Currently sitting in seventh place in the Southland Conference Standings, the Colonels (5-7, 2-3 SLC) pulled off a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi in their most recent contest. Junior midfielder Haylee Atwell, the team's leading goal scorer with four scores, rolled in the game-winner in the 98th minute after two Islander defenders collided.

Senior midfielder Emily Werenskiold ties Atwell with eight points this season as the Hosle, Norway, native has three goals and two assists.

The Cowgirls (8-3-1, 4-1 SLC) are in third place in the league standings and have won both of their road conference matches this season. McNeese is led offensively by preseason All-SLC second teamer Savannah LaRicci and first teamer Gabi D'Alesandro defensively.

LaRicci is one of three SLC student-athletes with six goals, including a league-high four game-winners. D'Alesandro has patrolled a backline that has eight shutouts in 12 matches.
