CONWAY, Ark. – The Nicholls State University volleyball squad concluded its season with a straight-set defeat to UCA, 25-13, 25-17, 25-20, Saturday afternoon at the Prince Center.
Senior middle hitter
Emily Weimer spearheaded the Colonels (4-25, 2-14 SLC) with eight kills on a .375 clip. Fellow senior middle blocker
Sydney Lerille followed with seven kills. Nicholls managed 30 kills but also committed 23 attacking errors.
The Sugar Bears (24-4, 13-3 SLC) accumulated 39 kills on a .297 attacking percentage. Samantha Anderson fronted UCA's efforts with 10 kills and six blocks. The Sugar Bears totaled 13 blocks.
After the Colonels took an 8-7 edge in the opening frame, UCA got one kill each from Kellen Dunn and Haley Tippett en route to a 5-0 run. The Sugar Bears found 11 kills in the first set, including five by Anderson.
Two three-point spurts and another five-point barrage helped UCA pull away in the second set.
Lerille and Weimer turned it on in the decisive frame, smashing five and four kills, respectively, as Nicholls totaled 14 kills. A kill from Weimer and service ace by sophomore libero
Emily Venable resulted in a 15-all tie before the Sugar Bears countered with four consecutive points on attacking errors by the Colonels.
