THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team welcomes Jacksonville University for a nonconference tilt at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Stopher Gym.
Nicholls (1-1) will be looking for back-to-back wins to start is home schedule following a victory over Spring Hill College Tuesday night. The Colonels used precise shooting from long range, hitting 7 of 14 3-pointers, to knock off the Badgers, 78-70. Nicholls never trailed in the contest and received a team-high 17 points from
Paige Williams.
Cassidy Barrios and
Tia Charles have been the leading scorers through the first week, averaging 14.0 points and 11.5, respectively.
Tykeria Williams accounted for 17 points in the opener, but missed last game with an injury. Barrios has two double-doubles so far, averaging 14 rebounds a game.
Jacksonville last played Thursday night at Alabama and despite an impressive first-half showing, came up short in a 75-60 loss. Brandi Buie netted 18 points for the Dolphins, but JU was limited to 33 percent shooting as a team.
Jacksonville has a 1-2 record on the season, opening with a 20-point loss to NC State before defeating Iona, 71-62. After three games, Buie (9.3 points per game) and Jasmyn Brown (9.7) lead the Dolphins in scoring.
Saturday marks just the second matchup between the programs, with the first coming last year. JU hosted a Thanksgiving Tournament and defeated the Red and Gray, 76-71. Barrios paced Nicholls with 23 points and eight rebounds.
