CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team ended the SEMO Thanksgiving Classic on a high note with a 72-55 win over Evangel Saturday afternoon.
Nicholls used its trademark defense to force 24 turnovers, which led to 11 steals and a 36-14 advantage in points off turnovers.
Cassidy Barrios led the team with 17 points and
Airi Hamilton netted 15.
Paige Williams had 10 points, helped by a perfect 2-for-2 day behind the arc. The Colonels hit a season-high 50 percent from long range, connecting on 8 of 16.
The Colonels cruised through the first three quarters, extending their 37-22 halftime lead to 27 after a dominating third quarter. Nicholls shot a staggering 67 percent in the period, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range.
Nicholls scored just nine points in the fourth, but the game was already well out of reach.
