THIBODAUX, La. – Coming off of its largest margin of victory in a Southland Conference contest, the Nicholls State University men's basketball team plans to continue that type of play Saturday when it faces the University of the Incarnate Word. Tipoff from Stopher Gymnasium is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Colonels (7-7, 1-0 SLC) dominated all phases of the game in their 87-46 whipping of Northwestern State Thursday. Nicholls scored 42 points on 22 Demon turnovers and boasted seven scorers with at least eight points.

Seniors Kimani Jackson and Tevon Saddler fronted the squad with 14 points each. After averaging just three points in the first two contests, Jackson has finished in double figures in three of the last four contests, including a 23-point performance against Mobile. Saddler has scored at least 10 points in 12 of 14 games.

Senior Roddy Peters, the Colonels leading scorer (18.4 ppg), has come off the bench the last five games. His production has not dropped off as he tallied at least 10 points in four of those five.

Nicholls is also receiving immense production from freshmen Kevin Johnson and Ryghe Lyons. Johnson has the best assist-to-turnover ratio in the Southland at 3.4 (47:14). Lyons has made five straight starts, serving as an enforcer on the defensive end with four multiple-block efforts and an underrated passer, connecting on five assists against Mobile and Northwestern State.

Considering all contests, the Colonels stand atop the league in assists per game (17.4), defensive rebounds per game (27.3), scoring offense (89.3) and 3-pointers made per game (9.9).

The Cardinals (5-6, 0-1 SLC) took a 23-point loss at the hands of McNeese in their SLC opener, moving their record to 0-5 away from San Antonio this season. UIW's leading scorer Simi Socks was limited to two points and committed four turnovers in 18 minutes against the Cowboys. The Cardinals rank first in the conference in blocked shots per game (5.6).

Nicholls has topped UIW in three straight outings, including two in Thibodaux.
