LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team received a team-high 17 points from
Taylor Morrison and
Cassidy Barrios added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, but the Colonels shot just 32 percent as McNeese defeated Nicholls, 59-52, Saturday afternoon.
The loss dropped Nicholls to 8-17 on the season, 5-9 in league play and pushed their losing streak to four games. McNeese improved to 12-13 and 7-7.
After scoring just eight points in the first, the Colonels outscored McNeese 17-9 in the second to send the teams into the locker room tied at 25. In the third, the Cowgirls led by as much as eight before Nicholls caught fire from deep, hitting three 3-pointers with the last coming from
Tykeria Williams that gave the Colonels a 38-36 advantage.
But in the fourth, Nicholls connected on just 5-of-18 from the field as McNeese pulled away for the victory.
Williams joined Barrios and Morrison in double figures, finishing with 10 points and two 3-pointers. As a team, Nicholls hit just 5-of-21 from long range.
McNeese was led by Amber Donnes with a game-high 21 points. Victoria Rachal scored 19 and added eight rebounds.
UP NEXT
The Colonels will head to San Antonio for a rematch with UIW on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m. Nicholls and UIW met on Dec. 31 in the conference opener, with the Cardinals coming away with a 78-52 win.
