Colonels rout Southeastern Louisiana at home, 92-57

THIBODAUX, La.  – Behind five players scoring in double figures - highlighted by a double-double from Cassidy Barrios with 21 points and 11 rebounds - the Nicholls State University women's basketball team put up a season-high in points as the Colonels defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 92-57, Saturday afternoon at Stopher Gym.
 
The win halted the Colonels' five-game skid and gave them a season sweep over Southeastern Louisiana (5-23, 3-14 SLC), who Nicholls defeated for its last victory. Nicholls upped its record to 9-18 overall and 6-10 in league play with two games remaining in the regular season.

Barrios continued her stellar sophomore campaign with her sixth double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 21 points on 8-of-10 from the field. Tykeria Williams and Taylor Morrison had 14 points each, with Morrison hitting all four of her 3-pointers in the first half. Emani White and Hope Pawlowski rounded out the leading scorers with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Nicholls shot 46 percent from the field and connected on 10 3-pointers. The Colonel defense held SLU to 34 percent and collected 15 steals off of 24 turnovers.

The Red and Gray trailed in the early going before piecing together a 15-0 run to end the first quarter. Morrison's third 3-pointer capped the spurt for a 25-14 advantage and the Colonels never looked back.

Nicholls led by 24 at the half and by as much as 39 before going on to sweep the Lady Lions.

UP NEXT

The Colonels will head to Beaumont Wednesday, March 1 for a rematch with Lamar. Nicholls defeated the Cardinals in the first meeting, 78-67. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
