ARLINGTON, Texas – The Nicholls State University softball team was held to two hits against Wichita State and was shutout for third time as the Colonels fell, 5-0, to close out the UTA Invitational Sunday.
Nicholls finished the weekend with a 1-4 record, picking up a win against host UTA on Saturday. The Colonels' record now stands at 12-6 on the year.
Caitlyn Carroll had one of the two hits for Nicholls, doubling in the fifth to break up a no-hit bid by Wichita State's Katie Malone.
Sydney Bourg had the other hit with a single in the seventh.
Jackie Johnson (4-3) got the start in the circle, throwing six innings with three earned runs on six hits.
Megan Landry pitched the seventh and allowed two runs on three hits.
The Shockers scored in the first and added two more in the sixth off of Johnson with a 2-run home run by Laurie Derrico, who was one of three WSU with two hits on the day.
Malone pitched all seven innings for Wichita State and struck out six.

Nicholls will have a few days off between returning to action next weekend in the Red and Blue Classic, hosted by Ole Miss. The Colonels open play with games on Friday (March 3) against Austin Peay and UT Martin.
